Position Title: Learning Specialist /Beginning Spanish Teacher Long Term Substitute
FLSA Classification: Full-time, temporary – Exempt, 3-month schedule of duties
Position Purpose: This substitute position consists of part of the day as a Learning Specialist, along with two sections of Spanish. Learning specialists provide individualized academic support to students under the supervision of the Director of Student Support. The Spanish teacher position is for two Spanish 2 high school sections and the substitute will be mentored by the Spanish department chair..
Major Responsibilities:
Provide intensive and individualized academic support to students
Develop student’s study, organizational, and test taking skills
Develop and implement executive functioning strategies and support
Maintain close communication with teachers, parents, and outside professionals to create a team approach to support student
Help students develop self-advocacy skills
Teach 1 block of Spanish 2 and 1 block of Honors Spanish 2
General Responsibilities:
Support and further the school’s mission, vision, and values
Actively engage in the life of the school and participate in related teaching duties, as needed
Ensure the safety and well-being of students
Celebrate and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the classroom and community in alignment with the school’s Diversity and Inclusion Statement
Other Considerations::
Monthly Salary range: $4,833 - $5,250

Qualifications:
Demonstrates an understanding of the intellectual, social, and emotional development of student learners
Able to develop strong and trusting relationships with students
Able to provide academic support using a variety of strategies or approaches to meet the needs of the student
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in education or related subject
A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of the school
Strong teaching ability with a clear enjoyment of working with children and outstanding interpersonal skills
Commitment to equity and inclusion
Willingness to adapt to an existing curriculum as well as contribute ideas to enhance the respective academic programs
Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Willingness and ability to work in a highly-demanding environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
Ability and willingness to attend and work occasional overnight field trips
Ability to travel safely and comfortably across a campus
May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs
Work primarily in a traditional, climate-controlled classroom environment and work intermittently in outside weather conditions consistent with San Pedro weather
