Position Overview: Hilton Head Prep is seeking a dynamic, student-centered Spanish Teacher to join our dedicated faculty August 4, 2025. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Spanish, with the ability to inspire and engage students. Strong candidates will have experience, preferably in an independent school setting and an understanding of the critical role that excellent teaching, accessibility, and active learning play in building a robust Spanish program. The Upper School Spanish Instructor is responsible for building on existing curriculum, teaching Spanish, and creating a dynamic learning environment for students in the class. This position will involve teaching students in a variety of levels. Upper School students can take Spanish 1 through Spanish V Honors and additional AP offerings. Students are required to take a minimum of three years of Spanish in Upper School. Involvement and engagement in regional and national Spanish associations is encouraged. Additionally, strong candidates will demonstrate the capacity to engage with students beyond the classroom as academic and club advisors, or through involvement in co-curricular theater and sports programming.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare materials and classroom for class activities, ensuring they reflect diverse perspectives and cultures to foster cultural competency among students.
• Deploy and collaborate on course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, project-based learning, and handouts, integrating cultural elements that broaden students' global awareness.
• Manage the classroom and differentiate learning to ensure successful learning for every student, taking into account diverse backgrounds and learning styles to promote inclusivity.
• Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students opportunities to explore and appreciate different cultures.
• Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions or activities in the target language, incorporating cultural topics to promote cross-cultural understanding and communication.
• Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records using the Blackbaud LMS.
• Assess student progress and provide timely feedback to support academic growth.
• Nurture relationships with students and parents through consistent communication.
• Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of upper school programs.
• Collaborate with the Learning Resource Specialist, Department, and Division Heads to develop strategies for students of concern.
• Maintain expertise in the field through ongoing professional development demonstrating a commitment to the field of study or knowledge of learning styles.
• Serve as an Academic Advisor and Club Sponsor or Athletic Coach.
• Participate in school meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events as required.

Requirements:

• Minimum Bachelor’s Degree, prefer MA or other post graduate work in Spanish, language acquisition, or pedagogy
• Experience teaching Spanish
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Technologically proficient in curriculum design and classroom presentation
• Demonstrate a capacity to be involved with students beyond the classroom as academic and club advisors or involvement in other co-curricular theater and sports programming.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a passion for working with adolescents.
• Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes academic excellence and character development.
