Position Summary The Pingry School seeks a dynamic and intellectually engaging Upper School Spanish Teacher to join its diverse community. The ideal candidate is committed to guiding young people as they construct their understanding of the Spanish language and Spanish-speaking cultures in a student-centered classroom. ?Candidates should possess the fluency, cultural knowledge, and pedagogical skills to teach any level of Spanish, but have a passion for teaching high school students of varying proficiency. They demonstrate a real commitment and passion for teaching in the Upper School and thrive on the opportunity to engage with this unique age group. A person with consistently high standards, the candidate of choice seeks growth and learning every day, both personally and professionally, and inspires others to do the same through optimism, and flexibility. A strong candidate is excited to work with other teachers not only in the Upper School, but also in the other divisions, fostering a K-12 culture of collaboration, shared purpose, and teamwork. This is a role that we may have open for the 2025-2026 school year, and we are beginning the search process to initiate interviews. As an institution, we will determine by the end of March whether we will move forward with hiring for this position.
Responsibilities
Teaching 4 courses
Serving as an advisor to a group of students
Collaborate cross-departmentally on the development and execution of a Spring Intensive Course.
Fulfilling an additional “plus one” requirement as assigned by the Upper School Director
Fulfilling any additional duties as assigned by the Upper School Director and/or the World Language Department Chair.
Participate in all required meetings, including faculty division meetings, scheduled collaboration times, professional development days, and beginning and end-of-year meetings weeks.
Provide extra support for students during flex and community times.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree is required. An advanced degree is preferred.
Native or near-native proficiency in spoken and written Spanish.
Strong background in Spanish, and Hispanic/Latinx culture and literature
Fluency with Spanish-language pedagogy
Capacity and commitment to teaching beginning Spanish through post-Advanced Placement.
Experience with and enthusiasm for teaching languages at the High School level.
Understanding the developmental milestones of Upper School students.
Experience with advising students.
Dedication to supporting the academic, social, and emotional well-being of students.
Robust interpersonal skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish. Comfort communicating with students, families, colleagues, and administrators.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Experience creating, supporting, and sustaining a culture of access and equity in world language education.
Ability to create a positive classroom environment that is safe, welcoming, and, at the same time, intellectually challenging.
Experience with using multiple methods of assessment to evaluate student learning.
Understanding of ways to develop and differentiate curriculum to maximize student learning.
Proficient in using the Google Suite of applications (Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, etc.) and comfortable incorporating technology into workflow, including tools like Google Classroom and Zoom.
