Key School is seeking a full-time Lower School (grades 1-4) Spanish teacher for the 2023-2024 academic year. Reporting to the Lower School Division Head, co-curricular teachers provide integral specialty area content for students across the spectrum of age groups within the division.
Essential Functions of the Position:
Develops, implements, assesses, and modifies, as necessary, a dynamic Spanish language program for Lower School students that aligns with Key School mission, vision, and values
Teaches Spanish through a multidimensional approach, with an emphasis on oral communication and culture
Organizes classroom systems and procedures and manages student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged and learning
Promotes principles of diversity, equity, inclusion and justice in both classroom program and practices
Implements progressive teaching and learning activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences
Assesses students’ knowledge for the purposes of refining classroom activities and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding students’ progress, expectations, and goals
Creates a caring community for learning through thoughtful, individual relationships with all students and families
Actively seeks opportunities for professional learning
Performs other related duties as required and assigned by the Lower School Division Head
The Ideal Candidate:
Works collaboratively with the Lower School faculty in striving to achieve an excellent program by actively participating in grade level and divisional meetings and events
Joins the all-school faculty, staff and administration in providing an outstanding educational community through daily interactions, departmental meetings and all school meetings and activities
Engages in and seeks out professional growth and development opportunities to promote one’s lifelong learning and to further knowledge and best practices in education
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in Spanish, unless native speaker); Master's Degree in education preferred.
Minimum two years of experience teaching Spanish
Fluency and expertise in conversational and written Spanish
Strong initiative and organizational skills
An ability to work in a joyful, culturally responsive, and collaborative environment

Physical Requirements:
Daily desk work including computer time; as part of daily routines, mobility around a large campus with uneven pavement and managing stairs; bending and squatting as required to participate in classroom activities; shifting furniture as needed, lift/carry boxes up to 25 pounds; the ability to maneuver as necessary within a classroom setting; frequent walking inside and outside as part of general job duties and responding to students and/or incidents.
