Middle School Global Languages Teacher (August 2021)

Full-time, .80 FTE (possibly 1.0 FTE), Exempt (salaried) The Middle School (grades 6 - 8) seeks a dynamic, organized, and impassioned Global Languages teacher with fluency in both the Spanish and French languages. This full-time, permanent teaching position is likely to include multiple sections of foundational French and Spanish. Depending on the candidate’s interests and the needs of the School, the position may include additional opportunities such as coaching, advising, leading experiential learning trips for students, and/or other co-curricular activities. We seek a professional that comfortably implements student-centered, inquiry-based learning strategies in the classroom to help develop cross-culturally competent and empathetic global citizens, empowered to communicate interpretively, interpersonally, and presentationally. Qualifications: Ideal candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree in either Spanish or French or a closely related field, 2 years of teaching experience, familiarity with ACTFL’s World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages, a desire to work with students in a supportive, college-preparatory environment, basic computer literacy for both administrative and instructional purposes, strong interpersonal and classroom management skills, effective oral and written communication skills, and a passion for global cultures. A master’s degree is desirable. Experience living and working abroad, and/or native speaker preferred, as is the ability to teach multiple levels of French and Spanish. Physical Requirements: Daily desk work including significant amounts of phone, zoom, and computer time; frequent walking both inside and outside campus buildings and navigating stairs, as well as walking around a large campus with uneven pavement; and bending/squatting as necessary to engage within a normal classroom setting.
