University of Notre Dame: College of Arts & Letters: German and Russian Languages and Literature
Location University of Notre Dame
Open Date Sep 5, 2019
Deadline Nov 25, 2019 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time
Description To promote its flourishing German Studies program, the Department of German and Russian at the University of Notre Dame invites applications for the position of Assistant Teaching Professor of German. This is a renewable-term hire, intended to be a career position with the possibility of advancement in rank going forward. The primary focus is on teaching and program building.
Qualifications The ideal candidate will have the Ph.D. in hand, have demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching, and possess an interest in the scholarship of second language acquisition and pedagogy. The typical teaching load will be four courses per semester, though this may be reduced by service to the department, including service to our highly successful summer study program in Berlin. We are seeking not only an innovative teacher, but a program builder with creative ideas about program promotion, extra-curricular programming, study abroad, and student recruitment.
The department welcomes applications from individuals who may have had nontraditional career paths, or who may have taken time off for family reasons (e.g. children, caring for disabled or elderly family), or who have achieved excellence in careers outside of academia. We are especially interested in applicants who view teaching and program building as areas to promote diversity, equal opportunity, and perspectives that are underrepresented in higher education.
Application Instructions Candidates should submit the following items electronically via Interfolio: a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and teaching statement. Applicants must arrange for three letters of recommendation to be submitted directly to Interfolio by their recommenders. Applications received by October 27 will receive full consideration.
