Lakeside School, an independent 5-12 coeducational day school located in North Seattle is currently recruiting for a one year (.75-1.0 FTE) Spanish Teacher for the 2019-2020 school year. This is a one year appointment only covering for a teacher on leave.
Responsibilities Language instruction at Lakeside Middle School is rigorous. Students take language every year (French, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese or Latin). Classes meet four times a week and the goal at every level is oral proficiency. The Spanish teacher will join Middle School faculty committed to providing the best educational experience possible for our 5th-8th grade students. Specific responsibilities include:
Deliver classroom instruction, with an emphasis on building oral proficiency, promoting students' ability to read and write in the language, and exploring the culture and history of the Spanish-speaking world;
Provide academic support for students outside of classroom as needed;
Collaborate and participate in the work of the Language department on innovative curriculum development, pedagogy, and assessment;
Write evaluations of students four times during the year;
Attend department and faculty meetings as scheduled;
Act as an advisor for 8-9 Middle School students;
Potentially teach one section of Upper School Spanish, and
Participate in the life of the school community which includes grade-level outings, admissions events, faculty meetings, grade-level meetings, and general engagement with student life.

Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in foreign language pedagogy or a related field and should possess native or near-native proficiency in both Spanish and English (must be able to interact with colleagues, students and families proficiently in English).
Experience teaching at a middle-school level or working with middle school aged students in some other capacity.
The ideal candidate has worked in an immersion setting using communicative and task-based pedagogical practices, has experience working collaboratively on a teaching team, and has experience living in a Spanish-speaking country.
Demonstrate cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions.
Cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions and an ability to communicate with people from cultures different than their own.
Candidates must satisfactorily complete two criminal background checks.
