Provides support, guidance, and advice for the development, expansion, implementation, improvement and assessment of the Discipline-Based Dual Language Immersion Model®, an adult accelerated learning program in two languages: English and Spanish. The Deputy Chief must conducts research in the development of new programs, services, products as they relate to the dual language model. Ensures that biliterate/bilingual instructional practices are implemented for student learning success. Provides guidelines to implements effective curriculum and instructional practices. Assists in the formulation of guidance and training of a biliterate/bilingual/dual language faculty and staff. Provides support during the start-up phase of new program delivery sites or projects.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Promotes the Discipline-Based Dual Language Immersion Model® through the learning sites and external community.
Implements and assures sustainability of the Discipline- Based Dual Language Immersion Model® working through and with academic division, learning sites, faculty, and staff.
Researches, revises, and adapts current trends in order to strengthen dual language and adult education in the university.
Designs, implements, and evaluates current biliterate/bilingual instructional practices to ensure student learning success.
Develops, implements, and assures sustainability of the Discipline-Based Dual Language Immersion Model® strategic plan throughout the institutional and operational plan.
Promotes, monitors, and ensures compliance of the learning sites with the Discipline-Based Dual Language Immersion Model® and dual language instructional strategies.
Provides support to management and staff of the branch campuses in their execution of the effective implementation of the dual language learning model.
Provides advice and collaborates in the design, implementation, and evaluation of the ongoing Learning Assessment Plan aligned to the Discipline-based Dual Language Immersion Model®.
Provides advice and collaborates in the design, implementation, and evaluation of faculty training and development tools aligned to the Discipline-based Dual Language Immersion Model®.
Implements and assures sustainability of the dual language discipline-based competencies with fidelity of implementation by administrators, faculty, staff, and students.
Implements, monitors, and assures execution of compliance action plans to reflect policy standards related to planning, design, delivery, licensing, accreditation, and evaluation of curriculum and instruction adapted and aligned to the Discipline-Based Dual Language Immersion Model®.
Presents and promotes current trends on research opportunities for the dual language model in higher education.
Identifies and assures accessibility of grants to secure longitudinal and class room action research of dual language in higher education.
Responsible of identifying, implementing, and evaluating the development of instructional resources needed for the Discipline-Based Dual Language Immersion Model® at the university level.
Implements and monitors an ongoing quality control process of bilingual curriculum and instructional learning practices.
Ensures that instructional modules are designed according to research-based practices for effective dual language instruction and learning.
Assures that the components on the PRISM curriculum and instructional model are effective implemented.
Other duties as assigned by the Chief Academic Officer.
Master’s degree in Education with specialization in Bilingual Education. Doctoral degree in Education, preferred.
Minimum of five (5) years of teaching and professional experience with emphasis in dual language education.
Experience in teaching second language learners in higher education, preferred.
Excellent bilingual (English and Spanish) verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of current curriculum trends, teaching and learning theory, and research-based practices in design, development, and evaluation.
Knowledge of and experience in working with educational technologies distance education models.
Ability to work effectively with teams. Ability to work effectively in a diverse community and meet the needs of diverse student populations.
Ability to multitask.
