DESCRIPTION: St. Paul’s School announces a search for the position of Chinese Teacher to begin duties in late November 2018. This is a winter term appointment to fill the need created while a faculty member is on leave. The Language Department requires students to not only master the mechanics of another language but also to immerse themselves in the arts, traditions, and customs of those who speak it. Under the direction of the faculty – and aided by the multimedia Language Center
– students come to understand different ways of thinking and living. The result is a consciousness that is truly global. Extensive offerings are provided in five modern languages – Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish – and in Latin and Greek, taught for beginners through a multitude of courses for advanced students.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary responsibility will be to teach advanced levels of Chinese during the winter term. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment working with one other Chinese teacher, with the faculty of the languages department, and with the broader faculty in advancing the mission of the School and the commitment to teaching and learning in a holistic educational environment. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience teaching Chinese language and culture and have an understanding of boarding school life.
In addition to teaching or administrative responsibilities, the candidate filling this one term position may also participate in other activities typical to the boarding school environment, including advising, dormitory association, coaching, committee work and other duties. St. Paul’s School is a completely residential, co-educational secondary school in Concord, NH, affiliated with the Episcopal Church and welcoming to all faiths.

Education: Masters Degree (or higher) preferred in Chinese
Experience: Two or more years teaching Chinese at the secondary level and at a variety of levels. Experience in using a variety of technological tools to enhance the learning of Chinese. Lively interest in current pedagogy and scholarship. Demonstrated experience of Chinese cultural immersion. As part of residential boarding school, the candidate must be committed to working and living with adolescents and supporting their academic, social, and emotional growth.
