Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of current and best practices of the teaching of a second language as well as the desire and ability to stay aligned with developments in the field of education
Continue to develop a strong curriculum map for a kindergarten through fifth grade Spanish program
Work collaboratively with lead faculty and associate faculty, as well as fellow specialist faculty to allow for integrated experiences for the students
Use a variety of teaching styles and tools so that each student can be successful and demonstrate achievement of desired outcomes
Provide differentiated instruction for students who have limited knowledge of Spanish, as well as native speakers
Speak primarily in Spanish for a majority of the class session, minimizing the use of English
Demonstrate strong classroom management skills across a wide variety of social and emotional needs
Know and support the school’s mission statement through professional conduct and actions which demonstrate the core values of the organization
Demonstrate personal and professional cultural competence and strong commitment to learning and teaching in a diverse community
Collaborate with colleagues in the design and implementation of the curriculum within the context of the school’s overall program, its commitment to Global Competency, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Initiates growth and change in his/her own intellectual and professional development, seeking out conferences, courses and other opportunities to learn
Attend faculty meetings, curriculum meetings, and in-service days; actively participate in faculty work aligned with the strategic plan
Write student progress reports two times each year according to the school year calendar
Participate in Curriculum Night, Grandparents/Special Friends Day, Admissions Open House, and other stewardship opportunities as assigned by the Head of School
Write newsletters and openly communicate with families in formal and informal ways
Manage classroom budget, and order necessary supplies
A Bachelor’s degree
A minimum of three years teaching experience of a foreign language in an elementary school setting
Bilingual (fluent in Spanish and English)
Proficient technology skills and the knowledge and ability to integrate technology into curriculum
A teaching certification and Master’s in Education in the language field is preferred
