The Spanish Teacher is responsible for student learning, classroom instruction, curriculum development and implementation, in accordance with the mission and philosophy of High Meadows School, in the specialty area of Spanish for students in multiage classrooms grades PK-5. The Spanish Teacher is also responsible for student assessment, narrative reports, parent communication (face-to-face, phone, digital), planning (within/outside of the PYP units of inquiry) and team meetings.
Components of Position:
Teach diverse student population Spanish using developmentally-appropriate experiences, projects and lessons to enhance learning
Teach conversational Spanish through the use of common phrases, vocabulary development, basic grammar, spelling and pronunciation
Teach students about Spanish language, literature, culture, and history through the development of interactive and engaging lessons
Create lesson plans using multi-sensory approach that includes movement, song, technology and literature to support vocabulary development
Collaborate with homeroom teachers to develop Spanish curriculum that supports primary classroom content
Utilize a variety of authentic assessment approaches to monitor and report student progress
Go into primary classrooms to allow for a more immersion type of learning environment
Support classroom teachers in promoting Spanish immersion in their classrooms by providing guidance, support materials and center-type projects that can be used in their classroom.
Work independently to develop and implement curriculum
Attend weekly meeting with Connection team to allow for support and collaboration of the arts in implementing a balanced curriculum
Implement IB curriculum and develop lesson and unit plans
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, community
Communicate with community about program, learning experiences and student progress
Provide classroom management using Positive Discipline Model
Perform any other related duties as assigned by Administrator
Minimum of five current, consecutive years as a full-time, lead teacher in Spanish Education (Early Years and Elementary) or similar;
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education (Pre-K through 5th) with Spanish (P-12) Certification required;
Preference given to those with Master’s Degree in Spanish Education which is strongly preferred
Gifted and ESOL/ESL Certification a plus
Current GA Teaching Certification preferred
Training in Total Physical Response Theory preferred
Experience as a constructivist educator in a progressive school setting preferred
Experience teaching in multiage settings preferred
Collaborative and interdisciplinary instruction experience
Must be literate and fluent in Spanish both written and verbal
